The Green Team is led by Chair Charlotte Lilly, with Rebecca Taylor White, Troy Johnson, Sue Drew, Tom Hyldon, and Laura Vodak Reid serving as members. Additional congregational volunteers participate as needed to support the team's activities.
This year the green team has continued to work on Pat and Julie‘s garden. When we cleaned up the garden this spring, we were able to share some extra native plants with church mouse. We also incorporated some plants from Pat Russel’s property, along with plants divided from Ginger Vodak’s garden, further establishing our Memorial garden theme.
The fig tree that was cared for months inside, was planted outside when Bishop Santos visited in June. He blessed our fig tree in a short ceremony commencing the beginnings of our Biblical Garden plans.
Troy has been working on clearing out the area behind the church and was able to save some daffodil bulbs that have now been planted in the center of the driveway among the trees. Hopefully they’ll brighten our spring. A lovely bench swing now sits in the area that we are excited to incorporate into our future plans. We are working on continuing to clear the overgrown wooded area including taking some trees down.
We are also working with the Lower Shore Land Trust to provide some areas with pollinator and native plants through their Yards for Creation program. This will be an opportunity to get help planning areas to beautify our property and help create space to nurture our environment and protect our watershed.
